Tongan Language Week 2020

Mālō e lelei,

Unitec Library celebrates Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga, Tongan Language Week 2020.

The theme is: Ko e Ta’u ‘o e Fakakoloa ‘o Aotearoa ‘aki ‘ae Lotu Mo’oni which focuses on enriching Aotearoa’s spirituality with Tongan language and culture through songs, poems and other works.

It will run from Sunday 6 September to Saturday 12 September. Also known as the 'Friendly Islands' the Kingdom of Tonga is divided into three main groups - Vava'u, Ha'apai and Tongatapu islands. Tonga has a rich history with a constitutional monarchy in the South Pacific. This years theme is special that connects our kainga and community together with lotu and faith to acknowledge the cultural heritage and language.

Unitec Library has resources both in print and electronic to help you learn and become familiar in Tongan Language. Check out the Unitec Library catalogue and our Pacific subject guide. The much-awaited book ‘The Rise of the To'a featuring Mate Ma'a Tonga rugby league team has been released on Tongan Language Week. If you are a MMT fan, we have this book now available to borrow from Unitec Library.

Come in and see our displays at Te Puna and Waitākere Library.
