Fijian Language Week 2020

 Ni sa bula vinaka,

Unitec Library celebrates Macawa ni Vosa Vakaviti, Fijian Language Week 2020.

Theme is: Noqu Vosa, Noqu iSema Bula’ - “My language, my living link”.

It will run from Sunday 4 October to Saturday 10 October. This theme reflects the strength and connection a people’s language and cultural identity provide as they make their life’s journey, particularly during challenging times. Our languages are our identity and are key to our wellbeing and success. Today we are also celebrating and acknowledging Fiji’s 50th independence since Fiji became an independent nation from Great Britain on 10th October, 1970. The Republic of Fiji has three official languages: English, iTaukei and Fiji Hindi. Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 islands located in the heart of the South Pacific. The two main islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Unitec Library has resources both in print and electronic to help you learn and become familiar in iTaukei culture and language. Check out the Unitec Library catalogue and our Pacific subject guide. Did you know that Levuka town on the eastern coast of Ovalau, in Lomaiviti province was the old capital of Fiji, read more about the UNESCO old heritage site here: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1399/
