Cook Islands Language Week 2016 at Unitec Library

The theme for this year's Cook Islands Language Week is:

'Kia ariki au i toku tupu'anga, ka ora uatu rai toku reo' — To embrace my heritage, my language lives on

The week is a chance for all Kiwis to celebrate the rich language and culture of the Cook Islands. In New Zealand, just over 20% of our Pacific population are Cook Islanders (61,839 people), our second largest Pacific ethnic group. As a realm territory, the Cook Islands also hold a special relationship with New Zealand, with Cook Islanders free to live and work in NZ.

Unitec Library has resources both in print and electronic to help you learn and become familiar in Cook Island language. Check out the Unitec Library catalogue

There is a huge range of events and activities across the country to mark the week.

Database outage - Google Scholar

There is currently a problem with Google Scholar - it is not displaying the link that takes you back to Unitec Library resources.  It is a widespread problem affecting many libraries around the world.  Google will be reharvesting our electronic holdings (so they will know what we have access to again) but this may take up to a week.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2016

Māori Language Week 2016 at Unitec Library

Kia ora! Come celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with Unitec Library. The theme for this year is “ākina te reo” – behind you all the way which is about using te reo Māori to support people, to inspire and to cheer on. The campaign will run from July 4th to 10th 2016.

Māori Language Week led by the Māori language Commission promotes te reo Māori to all New Zealanders. Following from last year’s theme, the Commission will be promoting 50 key phrases in te reo Māori with the aim to support our athletes at Rio Olympics.

Unitec Library has resources both in print and electronic to help you learn and become familiar in te reo Māori. Check out the Unitec Library catalogue and our Mātauranga Māori – Māori Language & Culture subject guide.

Changes to Turnitin

Turnitin now allows students to submit assignments multiple times up until the due date. One submission can be made every 24 hours. The final submission will overwrite previous drafts stored in the database. This is now the default setting when Turnitin assignments are created in Moodle.

Staff can check these settings are correct by ensuring the Originality Report Options, Report Generation Speed, is set to Generate Reports Immediately (resubmissions are allowed until due date).

For this reason the Library test drop box has been closed.

If you have any questions about Turnitin, you can seek assistance any of the following two places:

• Library
• IMS staff (Phone: 8484, Email: askims@unitec.ac.nz, Student Central Hub in Mt. Albert).
