Reference items now shelved among general collection

The Te Puna library reference books (including dictionaries and other ready reference material) are now interfiled in the general collection. This places them on the shelves according to the call number on their spines, among resources of the same subject. 

On the spine of each book, there is a "Not for Loan" sticker by the Dewey call number.

 
These books must remain in the library so that ākonga (students) and kaimahi (staff) can rely upon their being available.

A large collection of architecture books is labeled "Not for Loan." The Subject Librarian has placed them behind the display shelf on Level 2 as a mini 'Architecture Not for Loan' collection. As well as "Not for Loan" on the spine, the word "Architecture" is above the sticker. Further signage is still to come.

Summer hours for 2023-2024

From 27 November Unitec Library/Ask Me services will be operating on summer hours.

Staff are available at both Te Puna and Waitākere from Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm.

Details of access to buildings over this time are given below

• Te Puna: 7am to 6pm Monday to Sunday
• Waitākere: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.  Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday 16 December 2024 to Sunday 7 January 2024

• Te Puna: Closed

Monday 8 January 2024 to Monday 5 February 2024

• Te Puna: 7 am to 6pm Monday to Sunday
• Waitākere: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

After Hours Returns slots

When the library is closed, please return your library items as below.

• Mt Albert (Te Puna): Items can be returned through the return box at the entrance by Breaktime/Subway, or through the return box at the entrance by Student Central.
• Waitākere campus: Items can be returned through the Waitākere Public Library after-hours returns slot.
• Laptops must be returned to the desk where it was issued.

Waitākere Library interfiles their subject-related DVDs in the general collection

Subject-related DVDs are now shelved within the general collection at Waitākere. You will find them alongside books on the same topic. These DVDs can be loaned for 30 days.  

There is still a collection of movie DVDs available. See the display to the right as you enter by the airbridge from building 510. These DVDs can also be loaned for 30 days.

Having problems accessing exam papers and other library documents?

Over the weekend of 2/3 September, exam papers, library procedures and other documents hosted on the library server were inaccessible. The issue has been resolved.

Increasing access to the Architects' Journal

During the mid-year break, the library moved the Architects' Journal in the Te Puna (B180) Library from its original location in the Level 3 Quiet study area Reference collection onto the general library shelves on Level 2. 

It is interfiled according to its Dewey number (720 ARC) with other architectural library books/resources.

The journal is no longer "Reference only". Issues can be borrowed by students and staff under the standard journal loan policy of 7 days with 2 renewals (i.e. a total of 21 days). See the library's Borrowing and renewing limits.

Flood-damaged library items

Due to the recent bad weather in Auckland, we are aware that some students and staff may have flood-damaged library items.

Please tell us. 

1. Take a photo of the items (including the barcode on the front of each item).
2. Email these photos to the library at library@unitec.ac.nz along with your name and student ID no.
3. Dispose of these items yourself - don't bring them to the library.

The library staff will contact you if they require any further information.
