Tongan Language Week 2019

Mālō e lelei whānau,

Come celebrate Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga, Tongan Language Week 2019 with Unitec Library.

The theme for this year is: Fakakoloa 'o Aotearoa 'aki 'a e Tauhi Fonua - A Tongan Perspective of Enriching Aotearoa, New Zealand.

This will run from Sunday 1 September - Saturday 7 September 2019. Also known as the 'Friendly Islands' the Kingdom of Tonga is divided into three main groups - Vava'u, Ha'apai and Tongatapu islands. Tongans are the third largest Pacific community in Aotearoa and the Tongan language is a central feature of the culture and identity.

Cook Islands Language Week 2019


Kia orana whānau. Come celebrate Epetoma o Te Reo Māori Kūki ’Āirani: Cook Islands Language Week with Unitec Library.

"Taku rama, taau toi: ora te Reo" - "My Torch, Your Adze: The Language Lives"

This will run from Sunday 4th August - Saturday 10th August 2019. Cook Islands Maori language or  Māori Kūki ‘Āirani or Rarotongan is the country's official language. There are five vouvera (vowels): a,e,i,o,u. These have the same pronunciation as other Pacific Languages, including Te Reo Māori.
