Catalogue and database training

Do you want to learn more about how to use the Library Catalogue to find books, and how to use electronic databases to find journal articles?

You can sign up for training sessions at the Main Library at the following times:

Wednesday 5 August 3.30-4.00

Friday 7 August 12.30-1.00

Monday 10 August 5.00-5.30

Wednesday 12 August 10.00-10.30

Thursday 13 August 12.30-1.00

If you want to come to one of these sessions just go to Information Desk at the Main Library and leave your name.

Come on a Library tour

Tours of the Main Library are being held at 12.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There's no need to book - just come to the Lending Desk and join the tour.

Niustext

The Library is trialling the Niustext database. This database contains the full text of newspapers, magazines and other resources from the South Pacific, including Islands Business, Cook Islands Herald and Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation.

Library instant message service

The Library has upgraded its instant message service by installing a new programme called Library H3lp (pronounced 'Library Help'!)

You can now click on links from the Library website and the catalogue to access a pop-up chat window to talk to Library staff. We can provide information you are looking for, guide you in your search strategies and send files direct to you at your computer.

If you prefer, you can still chat to us from the window embedded in the Ask a Librarian page, or by using your personal IM account.

We aim to be available for chat during most of the hours that we are open.

Endnote sessions for postgraduate students

Training sessions for the citation management software EndNote are being held on

Wednesday 8th April from 12.30-1.30pm,
Thursday 23rd April from 11.00-12.30
Friday 24th April from 10.00-11.30, and
Wednesday 20th May from 1.30-3.00

in the Main Library training room. Places in these sessions are limited, so please register early either in person at the Main Library Information Desk, or by email to infolit@unitec.ac.nz. Include your name, email address, Unitec ID and phone number in your email.

Downloading Catalogue Records to EndNote

You can download records from the Library catalogue to EndNote if you have the correct connection file installed.

The connection file provided with the EndNote CD does not work with our new catalogue system.

To obtain the correct file, go to Research Tools - EndNote on the Library website.

Click on the link to Library Catalogue EndNote connection file.

A window pops up asking if you want to save or open the file. Select 'Save'.

Go to My Computer and navigate to C:/Program Files/EndNote X1/Connections.

Drag the UNITEC-Voyager connection file to the Connections folder.

Open EndNote and select Online Search - New Search from the Tools menu.

Select UNITEC-Voyager from the list.

A Search window will appear that you can use to search the Library catalogue.
